Made my first ever new vehicle purchase. My 13 Santa Fe Sport was going to be in need of about $5,000 in repairs after finding excessive shaft play in the turbo. I decided it is time to move on from it, no sens e bailing water out of a sinking ship.
I’ve been looking at a mid-size pickup for some time now. Test drove the Colorado and Ranger but just wasn’t sold on them. Not a long enough track record with reliability as the Taco, an d the build quality was absolutely horrendous in the American challengers.
For those that I’m sure will ask
Sticker was $ 38,999, OTD price was $ 40,600
TRD Off Road trim level, V6, 4x4
No additional options except factory mudflaps
And I love it so far

Negative, the only manny tranny they had was out of price range. Plus the wife and I ha ve a camper so towing would’ve been more of a chore.

Just traded my 18 Tacoma for a new full size chevy. Was a nice little truck but I missed the power and room of a full size truck.

Well done. Though it is a shame to see a seven year old car as an uneconomic repair...there is something wrong in the world when this happens.
Also....US$40,600 is pretty much AU$61,000...I could buy a lot of high spec mid size 4x4 dual cab ute for that down here. Toyota is doing very well out of the old Tacoma.

Since my wifes car now has electric hot leather seats, and a nice Bluetoothy gpsy radio, my fabric un- integrated 2g taco is getting less appealing. I’m now shopping 2015 leather gps tacos...
But...I’m worried about the jump in mpg, engine tech, etc, after reading on the new diesel rams getting 32mpg.... Ad Chevy Colorado getting the same, That’s +50% for a minor gas upcharge. Midsize needs to figure something out.
But. 50k for a midsize truck. BS. 1988 was half price of today and a loaded out f250 was 13k. Loaded out family sedan was 12k.

$5k for a new turbo on a Hyundai? I can buy a factory turbo for my wife’s BMW for less than $700. BMW charges around $2k to swap a new one in.
